First edition of this rare work in French published by the Academy of Sciences in Turin, on new technology in military armaments. The author provides an overview of the refinements proposed to barrel rifle and muzzle-loading and breech canons. He details the changes that the military is making to their weapons, including both the guns as well as the ammunition. Going back to review changes made in the technology of weapons and ammunition during the earlier part of the nineteenth century, and still questioning whether these, plus the more “modern” changes, are for the better. Then an in-depth analysis of barreled weapons, including a study of their efficiency.

The four folding plates show various canon and their positions inside the batteries for optimal defense and offense.
