London: Matthew Iley, 1821. FIRST EDITION. With 20 hand-coloured aquatint plates. Modern sprinkled calf, gilt-ornamented spine. Text in verse. Item #2727
First edition. The text is in verse and the plates similar in style to William Combe's Dr. Syntax, illustrated by Thomas Rowlandson. Tooley lists this work under Rowlandson as a Syntax imitation. Abbey does not note an author; two copies are located in NUC under Dr. Prosody, nine under Rowlandson. The text is most probably by Combe, but in fact the plates are by C. Williams and W. Read.
