First edition in German. Soddy's Radioactivity from the standpoint of disintegration is based on a series of lectures given by him at the University of London between October, 1903 to February, 1904. Soddy (1877-1956) was awarded the 1921 Nobel Prize in chemistry for his contributions to our knowledge of the chemistry of radioactive substances, and his investigations into the origin and nature of isotopes. Van Maanen (1884-1946), a Dutch-born astronomer known for his astrometric measurements of internal motions in spiral nebulae, worked at the Mount Wilson Observatory from 1912 until his death in 1946.
