First and only edition of this collection of letters which provide a glimpse into the everyday life of a medical doctor, as well as fatherly advice on various topics (plus the requisite lines of poetry). Sage (1853-1917), the son of a carpenter, worked his way through school as a teacher, eventually attending medical school at the University of Buffalo.
