First edition of this collection of five short single-scene plays. “These five studies are parts of a series of which I hope to publish more examples at a later date.” The first two, Otho and The Triumph, appeared in the September and December 1913 issues of The Nation. The last, The boy’s dream, contains passages from a drama published in Madras in 1883 entitled Edgar. The marsh was intended to be a melodrama; however at the time of publication, the music had not yet been developed.
