Lydston (1858-1923) graduated from the Bellevue Hospital Medical School in New York, specializing in genito-urinary surgery and venereal diseases. The author of three other works of fiction, he was a versatile figure, not only a writer, doctor and professor of medicine he was also a professor of criminal anthropology.
