First edition. The tale of an overbearing father and the liberation his son finds with the help of the gardener. This novel was made into a popular motion picture in 1956 starring Dirk Bogarde, Jon Whiteley and Michael Hordern. The dust-jacket was designed by the famous German book artist George Salter (1897-1967).
