First edition in book form, first published in The Idler. Written in the form of a series of sixteen letters, this fictional work contains many passages which are semi-autobiographical, based largely on Doyle’s personal relationships. The final note on the death of Mr. Munro and his wife in a train accident was edited out by Doyle in later editions.
