New York: The Heritage Press, . 4to. vii, [v], 210 pp. Frontispiece and 7 colour plates. Original red cloth in dust-jacket. Item #12210
This edition includes a short biography of the author and plates by the illustrator John Austen (1886-1948). Austen’s earlier work was heavily influenced by the great illustrator Aubrey Beardsley, and he eventually fine tuned and simplified his style until it became what we find in the present volume. He was the illustrator for numerous books put out by the Heritage Press and the Illustrated Editions Club, including Vanity Fair, Pickwick Papers, David Copperfield, and A Comedy of Errors.
