Later edition of Volume I and first edition of Volume II. A very readable work encompassing pre-Civil War posturing by the States and their politicians through the end of hostilities. Crafts (1819-1906) spends a great deal of time and effort on Lincoln's cabinet and the military leaders on both sides of the conflict.
