The minutes of the Board of Directors of the Kingstown Township School District, and accounting book for the operation of the first school within the District. On August 10, 1862, a group of residents of what would become the Kingstown Township elected R.R. Denis as first school director, and chose the location of the school house (“on the hill on the east half of the North section of 39”).

The majority of the book consists of an account of the school’s operations, including amounts paid for supplies and for the services of teachers.

Members of the Board included Denis, Isiah Fairclo (president of the Board of the School District), Arial Fairclo, Theodore Fairclo, Marshall Fairclo, Moses Keath, and Isaac B. Garrison.

According to information provided by the DeKalb County Historical Society, the County was originally divided into eighteen townships, each being responsible for their schools.

Isaiah Fairclo was born in New Jersey, came to Illinois in 1835. He had eight children. All of the Fairclo families lived all around the school.
