Second edition, first printed the prior year. Combination of history and practical observations at prolonging life. Much of the material is quite appropriate to the mid-nineteenth century prior to the Civil War. Hufeland (1762-1836) was court physician at Weimar and personal physician and friend of Goethe, Schiller, and Herder. He corrected the popular misconceptions about Mesmerism and phrenology.
