First edition of this scarce atlas. Included are 53 maps illustrating the modern world and 26 illustrating the ancient world (of which eight are double-page). The plate illustrates the comparative lengths of rivers and heights of mountains; maps include the hemispheres, a world map, the Ottoman Empire, Chinese Empire, Canada, United States, and more. Each map is engraved from original drawings by Fenner.
Fenner (active 1812-1846) was a famous London publisher, artist, author and cartographer. We only located four copies in America, and an additional 2 which lacked one of the parts. The date of the first part is based on Tooley.
