First editions of these forensic texts by a pioneering psychiatrist. The first addresses legal separation in marriage, which the author claims to be acceptable on the grounds of grave injury, obesity, unnatural predilections, venereal disease, hysteria, epilepsy, and insanity. The second work describes the medico-legal responsibility of establishing proof of death and the specific guidelines in cases of sudden death, negligent death, accidental death, suicide, and murder. The other two texts are about mental illness, its heredity and pathology. The author pays special attention paid to anxiety, suicide ideation, touch aversion, and phobias, and provides instructions for both therapeutic and chemical treatment.

Legrand du Saulle (1830-1886) was a French physician who specialized in personality disorders. He trained under the forensic pathologist Bénédict Morel and assisted the legal authorities of Paris in addition to his clinical work.
