Second edition of Bridges' delightful treatise on the degraded state of English language phonetics, where he presents his scheme for a "literary phonetic alphabet." Chapter titles include Degradation of unaccented vowels; Is there a remedy?; and Phonetic decay. The first edition was printed only three months prior to the second; a note on page 4 of the text states that Bridges "thought it best to alter only a few places that needlessly offended. . ."
