Brown (1810-82), a Scottish physician and author, graduated from the University of Edinburgh and practiced as a physician in that city. His earliest writings were entirely on subjects relating to medicine. He later discovered his gift for writing and authored works of or related to poetry, art, human character, the scenery of Scotland, and the nature and ways of dogs.
