The Libby Chronicle. Devoted to Facts and Fun. A True Copy of the Libby Chronicle as Written by the Prisoners of Libby in 1863. Albany, NY: Louis N. Beaudry, 1889.
4to. [iv], 19 pp. With frontispiece portrait of the author. Brown publisher's cloth, spine lightly rubbed, with a stain to back cover; some age-toning to interior, otherwise very good. Presentation inscription from the editor to his pastor; from the library of Ralph R. Ritzman, with his ownership inscription. $500.00
First edition. The editor was a chaplain for the 5th NY Volunteer Cavalry and a prisoner at the Libby. Each week the prisoners would compile the "newspaper" and then they would be read each Friday at the prison. Beaudry, who was the first editor and reader, retained the original manuscripts and published these seven issues for the first time in this scarce volume.
