INSCRIBED BY OSCAR LEWIS. First edition, one of five hundred twenty-five copies printed by the Grabhorn Press. Carrie Van Wie's paintings of San Francisco scenes are reproduced in full-page color from watercolor drawings, the blocks engraved by Mary Grabhorn and printed over collotype plates. This was the Book Club of California's 1963 Christmas offering which celebrated forty years of collaboration between Oscar Lewis, the Grabhorn Press and the Club. Van Wie (1880-1947), born in San Francisco, was a self-taught artist. Her works include watercolors and oils of historic sites in her native city where she spent her entire life, such as the Cliff House and Fort Point.
