First edition of this important work on scurvygrass by the great German physician, Moellenbrock (fl. 1650). In addition to the detailed physical descriptions of the various species, he provides a great deal of information on its therapeutic use, both internal and external, for the treatment and prevention of scurvy. His recipes include directions for preparing fermented and unfermented wines, syrups, lotions, extracts and tinctures, all using various parts of the plant and designed to relieve the symptoms associated with ascorbic acid deficiency. Tobacco is mentioned, as is the drug "Jalap", recently introduced from Mexico. The present work is extremely rare in its original edition. It was subsequently translated into English in 1676 by Thomas Sherley.
