This Opera, the second of nine editions in Latin from Sydenham's collected works, contains a number of dissertations on epidemics in various cities and regions of continental Europe during the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries. Among the authors represented are Ramazzini, Lister, Hamilton, Drelincourt and many others. Sydenham (1624-89), one of the principal founders of epidemiology, revived the Hippocratic methods of observation and experience. His detailed analysis of malarial fever, measles and numerous other diseases are based upon his firsthand clinical observations.
