First English edition, published the same year as the original German, of one of the author's most famous works. This treatise encompasses important studies on gases, by Bunsen (1811-99), the founder of the science of analysis of gases and the inventor of the Bunsen Burner and galvanic cell named after him. The work was translated by the English chemist, Sir Henry Enfield Roscoe (1833-1915), who worked with Bunsen on these important investigations.
